PHOENIX (AP) — The field in the Arizona governor’s race is growing with State Treasurer Dean Martin’s announcement Wednesday that he’s running for the Republican nomination.
The first-term treasurer and former state senator from Phoenix is challenging Gov. Jan Brewer for the GOP nomination.
Martin has criticized Brewer’s proposal for a temporary sales tax increase to help balance the state budget in the face of current and projected shortfalls.
Tucson attorney John Munger has declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination. Republicans exploring possible candidacies include Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker and former NRA official and businessman Owen “Buz” Mills, who has loaned his exploratory effort $2 million.
Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard is expected to announce his candidacy soon.
