“Sen. Dean Martin has a Strong Record of Support for our Troops & Veterans.”
- Congressman Trent Franks

US Armed Services Committee

As Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and Senior Member on the Appropriations Committee, Sen. Dean Martin sponsored the tax relief package and shepherded many other important veterans’ legislation into law.

- Sponsored Legislation that now exempts Active Duty Military Pay from Arizona Income Taxes.

- Authored Legislation Providing a Tax Credit for donations to charitable 501(c)(3) organizations that send gift packages to our military service personnel who are stationed overseas. (This bill eventually passed as a direct appropriation by the state to pay for postage. This will save troop support organizations thousands of dollars for postage and makes the program immediately available rather than having to raise funds via a tax credit first.)

- Supported Requiring the Department of Revenue to provide a tax check-off for the Veterans' Donation Fund on the individual income tax return. The fund is used to provide health care and education to veterans as well as provide for the maintenance of the State Veteran's Home, memorials, and cemeteries.

- Supported $10 million in funding for the veterans' home facility in Tucson.

- Supported Funding for the new Pearl Harbor Memorial and Visitors Center to be located in Honolulu, Hawaii.

- Sponsored legislation to require homeowners' associations (HOA) to allow the outdoor display of U.S. military flags.

- Supported protections for members of the United States military & their spouses regarding payday loans.

- Supported the expansion of the National Guard Relief Fund to provide financial assistance to families of Arizona National Guard members mobilized in support of a contingency operation or state emergency rather than only Guard members placed on active duty and in a combat zone.

- Sponsored legislation to simplify the Charitable Tax Credit to make it easier to donate to organizations that help Disabled American Veterans.
